The Great Blue Heron is an elegant and also prehistoric looking bird, one I never tire of seeing. There is a rookery behind my moms house where they all gather in the spring to nest. It’s an amazing sight, watching them fly to and from the ocean to bring food back for their babies. In the early mornings, they’re perched by the dozens, enjoying a bit of warmth before feeding begins again. This painting was inspired by one of those moments, watching a parent take a short break in the tree above me.
